I have been eyeing these cut off shorts on pinterest for a while now as I prepare for a trip to Mexico later this spring.  I've run into two styles, one is the traditional cut off with a folded up hem and the other is scalloped.  A special mention to those pairs with lace at the cuff as well but I felt those looked more like lingere instead of shorts that I'd wear climbing ancient Aztec pyriamids. So I mixed it up with folded up scalloped edges. These were super easy to make since I used no-sew fusing tape and an iron. </p>
<p>Things you'll need:<br>
Bonding tape<br>
Marker<br>
Circle<br>
Iron<br>
Jeans<br>
Sissors</p>
<p>Step one: I cut off the bottom half of each leg of the jeans. Cut them longer than you want because its easy to cut away but harder to add to more. Try them on leave  an inch more then where you want the shorts to end and cut again. Its easier to cut through one layer of the jeans at a time and will keep the hems even.</p>
<p>Step two: iron on the bonding tape. Follow the tape's directions. Mine is extra strength and 7/8 of a inch in width. This part goes fast since you only need a little heat.</p>
<p>Step three: do this with the jeans waist band closest to you. The circles should barely touch each other, I got four on each side.  Basically you will fold the scalloped edge up so that the edge is a straight line. Once you trace go a head and cut along your line.</p>
<p>step four: fold the scalloped edge up and iron again. If you need to add a little more bonding tape to weak spots you want the scalloped edge to lay flat so that it won't fray. I did one leg at a time and used the first one as a guide for the last one. </p>
<p>And you're done!</p>
<p>Happy Spring ( once it warms up of course) </p>

So fast that I can barely keep up with my  to do lists, events, trips and goals. What I really wanted for the holidays was a blog planner to help me keep track of all the great ideas I want to blog about. Courtney over at Click it up a Notch created a blog planner jammed pack with helpful tips, bright colors lots of space to write in everything going on for the low price of $12. So far it has been worth it and of course you know I had to makeva nifty mini notebook to hold it all. I made this one the exact same way I did the Perki Smash style Monthly Calendar. A neat trick I used this time is that I found sheet cover to fit the smaller notebook at office depot. Thus helped save a lot of paper because I only have to print on goal sheet and weekly to sheet, pop them in the sleeve and write on it with a wet erase marker. I also only write on the calendar pages in pencil, because things are always changing.</p>
<p>I write for three blogs currently. Two are public the diy crafty The Perki Giver and my revamped lifestyle blog, Nest. The private one I share with my husband about our spiritual studies. My goal is to have some writing done in each every week. These past few weeks I have been setting this schedule all up, I truly appreciate my readers for their patience.</p>
<p>The pictures are below. Let me know what you think in the comment section. Have you made anything yet for 2013? What projects do you want to see done? </p>

Super excited that 2013 is here! I have let go of a lot in the past year and my hope is to be open minded and open-hearted in order to fill those new open spaces with creativity and love. I can not express my gratitude enough for my friends, family and husband for all their support throughout 2012. Some things to look forward to in 2013:<br />
<iframe bordercolor="#000000" frameborder="0" height="250" hspace="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="http://ad.doubleclick.net/adi/N7433.148119.BLOGGEREN/B6536010.1410;sz=300x250;ord=[timestamp]?;lid=41000613802464048;pid=22333280;usg=AFHzDLsaYvm_wX4JseAKnD9QpA-v6nCFjw;adurl=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.officemax.com%252Foffice-supplies%252Fpens-pencils-markers%252Fpencils%252Fmechanical-pencils%252Fproduct-prod3111668%253Fcm_mmc%253DPerformics-_-Office%252520Supplies-_-Pens%252C%252520Pencils%252C%252520and%252520Markers-_-Pencils%2526ci_src%253D14110944%2526ci_sku%253D22333280;pubid=609967;price=%244.98;title=Sharpie+Liquid+Pencils%2C+Black%2C+2%2Fpk;merc=OfficeMax;imgsrc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.officemax.com%2Fcatalog%2Fimages%2F397x353%2F22333280i_01.jpg;width=151;height=135" vspace="0" width="300"></iframe><br />
Continue blogging-- I have wanted to write a book for a really long time and after failing miserably at <a href="http://www.nanowrimo.org/">NANOWRIMO</a> this year I realized that there were other avenues of writing and communication. So I combined my two favorite past times reading about crafting and crafting with writing and got <a href="http://perkigiver.blogspot.com/">The Perki Giver</a>.<br />
I also decided to do more personal updates from time to time and on a family journal that my husband and I keep together. So I'll be writing all the time and maybe in the future that book will come but presently crafty blogging is the new hotness for me.<br />
<br />
Physical activity-- I plan to keep this going as well. This past year I trained and ran the <a href="http://www.peachtreeroadrace.org/">Peachtree Road Race 5K</a>, took a spinning class, did Zumba, did yoga, <a href="http://www.meetup.com/Atlanta-Kung-Fu-Group/events/97055602/">hike a mountain regularly and do kung fu</a>. You can follow me on <a href="http://ftcy.me/9YCfMD">Fitocracy</a> as well as I level up in the coming year. I just took on a challenge to run more in January and I really want to do the<a href="http://thecolorrun.com/atlanta/"> Color Run</a> in April so I think as long as I keep moving I'll be in good shape.<br />
<br />
Craft, Craft, Craft-- This last goal kind of fell into my lap, really. It all started with a 30th birthday party at <a href="http://www.michaels.com/">Micheals</a> and next thing I know I have a craft blog, and a <a href="http://www.spottedcanary.com/">certified scrapbook and paper craft instructor</a> and I'm setting up meet ups in my classroom for fellow teachers who craft. I couldn't be more thrilled! Creating and making stuff has opened a whole new world for me. It's like I'm using a whole other part of my brain it's joyous! I have tons of crafty ideas and projects for this year and I can't wait to share them with you.<br />
<br />
Growing in Mind and Spirit-- I'm taking online classes on just about everything from teaching and graphic design to <a href="https://www.coursera.org/courses">how to reason</a>. Along with my spiritual practice I have lots of reading to do. thank go for pdf readers and audio books for getting me through my commute to work a little bit smarter.<br />
<br />
Love-- last but not least I have been learning to express true love to those I care deeply about and to everyone around me. It is a daily test to love others as God love us and to keep that faith through the trying of times to learn and grow in that capacity to love. I want to be the best expression of that Love that I can be.<br />
<br />
So with all that on my plate all things are possible and I look forward to all that 2013 has to bring!<br />
<br />
Happy New Year!<br />

I have been stumped with what to do with th though after the holiday passes. In past years I've just packed them up with the rest of my holiday gear. Some of them are really beautiful and are from  close friends and family with personal messages others are nice but I sadly can't read the signature or recall who gave them to me. So a way to honor both types I decided to make books out of them, kind of like here, which I saw on pinterest, but of course I added my own Perki flair.</p>
<p>Here's what you'll need:<br>
Sicssors<br>
A variety of Card stock and scrapbook paper<br>
Markers<br>
Glue stick<br>
Hole punch<br>
Binder rings<br>
Ribbon, stickers and other embellishments</p>
<p>Step1: Making the cover. This cover is holiday turned but you could do one for just about any type of cards you have. I plan on making a birthday and wedding one next. This is also great for showers since you can punch the cards right then if you make the cover in advance. Measure where the holes will be and use the cover as a guide for the others cards. You can punch 2 holes using a standard 3-hole punchers otherwise if you have a single hole punch or adjustable 3- hole punch make sure to have enough binder rings.</p>
<p>Step 2--making the pages. With some cards they are large enough to be punched as they are but other are smaller or have a message in them you don't want to cut through.with those cases I mounted the card on cardstock with and punched the holes in that. </p>
<p>Step 3: Embellish! This is the fun part because you decorate around the cards on cardstock. I even cut  cards up and made a collage with different pieces. Use metallic pens, paper punches, ribbon and stickers to dress up each card page.</p>
<p>Step 4: Put it all together.<br>
Put the cards in order by year, date, honor, theme or however it looks pretty. Hole punch each page and use the binder rings to hold it all together.</p>
<p>Now instead of throwing out holiday cards, you have neat decorative coffee table books of your past memories for every season or occasion. The best part is that you can keep adding to them once you get going, so Perki!</p>
<p>Kiss kiss!<br>

<br />
<br />
This project I did with my sister, Natricia, for some friends of hers. It was fun and I think this is a great painting project for kids to do as well.<br />
<br />
What you'll need:<br />
Terracotta Pots<br />
tempera paint<br />
stencils<br />
blue 1/2 inch painters tape<br />
<br />
Step 1: Paint terracotta planters. We chose white and copper for our color scheme but any combination will do. I also like white and dark blue. Or if you know their favorite sports teams colors go with those, the possibilities are endless.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcqVE7pxRPz6OuEMPLJd6fOTdR5_V17lzIdcMxMX1FwQ-HOWR6Anc6LfN3gxSroJKwMVMUDV8YFEnqja3vkVizd9u7nhzMfqV6E1gAGiLfzPQ7ZRq4KZwCdGtfEHKkaiWk3mdQYR0OtUQ/s1600/2012-12-10+18.41.26.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcqVE7pxRPz6OuEMPLJd6fOTdR5_V17lzIdcMxMX1FwQ-HOWR6Anc6LfN3gxSroJKwMVMUDV8YFEnqja3vkVizd9u7nhzMfqV6E1gAGiLfzPQ7ZRq4KZwCdGtfEHKkaiWk3mdQYR0OtUQ/s320/2012-12-10+18.41.26.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Step 2: Let the base coat dry for at least 4 hours. The pots should be dry enough that the paint won't chip when you remove the tape.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9z4YqbRNWanO-2r2eJBt_zV05SMifhAlMS0TOkzoK3ltrhbQYDuIJDaPATQH7lYOxWXwz9IEqZXhDfEKRWUnIPJKe6HcJ7wIuVHzA_6GKJkNPR8-l1lp2wWFZdN32yTMDqhXwdJCv85M/s1600/2012-12-10+19.35.43.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9z4YqbRNWanO-2r2eJBt_zV05SMifhAlMS0TOkzoK3ltrhbQYDuIJDaPATQH7lYOxWXwz9IEqZXhDfEKRWUnIPJKe6HcJ7wIuVHzA_6GKJkNPR8-l1lp2wWFZdN32yTMDqhXwdJCv85M/s320/2012-12-10+19.35.43.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Step 3: Prepare your stencils and paint. My sister made our stencils using Microsoft Publisher by enlarging the font of her choice which we then cut out with a Exacto knife. You can also use a packaged stencil kit as well. Use the painters tape to hold the stencil in place. We used our friends names, but you can stencil just about any words: plants, names, team slogans the list goes on and on. Let paint dry for at least 4 hours before removing stencils.<br />

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Step 4: Fix any spots that need a touch up. Some paint might have steeped through the thin areas of the stencil just paint over the blotch with a fine tip brush and appropriate paint color.<br />

Every year we celebrate at least one night together, its become our families' tradition. I also made one as my Step-Dad's Christmas gift in a different color which he totally loved.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGgILna5nAxzCsV7dA66svs_N_30Lm2ScC0oxL-KfvzRnNeZsKAsnRw9XFzwNZbeuzLg5pbSxvhH1h_WjIJoOFckSHwzqzkdNI4LN2pORlo_m-gH5fp7lM4MjvuOmtlkKxZ89SL2kIwgo/s1600/IMAG0479.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGgILna5nAxzCsV7dA66svs_N_30Lm2ScC0oxL-KfvzRnNeZsKAsnRw9XFzwNZbeuzLg5pbSxvhH1h_WjIJoOFckSHwzqzkdNI4LN2pORlo_m-gH5fp7lM4MjvuOmtlkKxZ89SL2kIwgo/s400/IMAG0479.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Things you'll need:<br />
Dye-able necktie<br />
<a href="http://www.michaels.com/Tulip%C2%AE-Permanent-Fabric-Dye/gc1497,default,pd.html" target="_blank">Tulip Dye</a> (powder or liquid)<br />
Stainless steel bowl<br />
Water (temperature per instructions)<br />
<br />
<u>Step 1:</u> Follow the direction on your Dye for prepping your tie and preparing the dye. Some dyes need hot water others room temperature will work fine make sure you know which type of dye you are using and how the color is set, either by cold rinse or dry set where you put your item in the dryer for the color to stay. In my case for this project i used a hot water heat setting dye. I also wet my tie first according to the dye instructions.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpUaiap60xg4pWmsiatxQ-VebuYe4t2YAoSh3DYb9ikNEHIlDkK6NdMaMx7OeipbOOaKfGSFeLtBfiOgp1nl36zJwWs5zUazN1szim0ANiLwOzLBUDzTVRbBzys3HSF8IiBSqJh5nUaHI/s1600/IMAG0473.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"> <img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpUaiap60xg4pWmsiatxQ-VebuYe4t2YAoSh3DYb9ikNEHIlDkK6NdMaMx7OeipbOOaKfGSFeLtBfiOgp1nl36zJwWs5zUazN1szim0ANiLwOzLBUDzTVRbBzys3HSF8IiBSqJh5nUaHI/s400/IMAG0473.jpg" /> </a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<u>Step 2:</u> Begin the dying process. There are two main ways to get the <a href="http://www.ritdye.com/dyeing-techniques/ombr%C3%A9-dyeing" target="_blank">Ombre effect</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Option 1-- Dunk your item to a point where you want the effect to begin then, slowly remove the item out of the dye a little at a time. </li>
<li>Option 2-- Sink your item into the dye a little at a time watch carefully since the dye will climb or be adsorbed by the fabric in this method.. </li>
</ul>
Both methods require some time standing over the dye so which ever method is easier for you to do for your item go for it. I tried both and it's my personal opinion that Option 2 gave me a richer color saturation than Option 1 but to each his own.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: red;"><b>*Warning: DO NOT cook or boil dye. Only follow dye instructions.</b></span></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">O Christmas Tree!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
For this project I used one of my favorite art mediums... Shaving cream! Plus this project is fun to do at any age since its quick to do and clean up after. I grab a value pack of blanket cards and do this for holiday cards. Everyone raves about the artistic and personal touch.<br />
<br />
Things you'll need:<br />
Aluminum foil tray<br />
<a href="http://www.barbasol.com/" target="_blank">Barbasol</a> Shaving cream<br />
Water<br />
card stock paper (white or off-white work best but any color will do)<br />
Tempera and or Acrylic paints<br />
Popsicle stick or squeegee<br />
Plastic Forks and spoons<br />
chopsticks and anything else to make a cool design<br />
<br />
<u>Step 1</u>: Fill the aluminum tray with shaving cream. Be generous you are going to use this a couple of times since the paint only sits om the surface and is absorbed by the card. Use your finger, the Popsicle stick or squeegee to spread it out. You get your hands dirty in this project so but in a good fun way.<br />

<u>Step 2:</u> Drop paint in the shaving cream. I use a mixture of tempera or acrylic paint and water to keep the paint from sinking through the shaving cream.A little goes along way here a quarter size drop of paint and a couple drops of water is enough to do 10-15 3x5" cards. This is where the forks, spoons, paint brushes, chopsticks all come in handy, use them to move your paint around in the shaving cream. Different things will create different effects!</div>

This project is super fun for kids of all ages and the shaving cream makes for an easy clean up, it just rinses away. Do be careful of paint splatter, always wear an apron and put down news or butcher paper to cover your work surface. Most my supplies I got at the <a href="http://www.dollartree.com/home.jsp" target="_blank">Dollar Tree</a> and they can be used again and again.</div>

<br />
This was one of my favorite gifts to make so far! There are two main reasons why. One it was for my "bestest" friend in the world and Two she really needs a personal calendar she has twins on the way enough said as to how busy she will be in the coming years. This project was seeded from a demonstration I saw about <a href="http://youtu.be/_PFsArr4Z1s">SMASH books</a>. I didn't use any of the products here but you easily could and I will definitely do a project with some of them in the future. These are a great gifts for the scrapbooker or that friend that still has ticket stubs from fifth grade hanging around (wink!).<br />
<br />
Let's jump right in!<br />
<br />
Things you'll need:<br />
small binder or SMASH book<br />
File folders<br />
different kinds of paper (various colors, textures, patterns etc)<br />
single hole punch<br />
pouch (optional)<br />
Printer (optional)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<u>Step 1: </u>Create a guide!<br />
This one step can make this a very fun project where you ride a wave of creativity or really frustrating where you have to keep redoing pieces because holes don't match up. Make sure you get the hole placement right this one time and then use it over and over when it comes time to put the book all together.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje5dR3JZajbUPK7SVPMUqXOQyG7Ke3UAH0ZLOPeeHhXtvHOrO80TzH8xRnbR2ZTUEt7f3gEXyREuq-4PqKp5nvPLBFILicDlh4h6L6Ztl9MWPlA9LMvu58NZ9DXY9Mf94wNre3aBXbXSM/s1600/IMAG0497.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEje5dR3JZajbUPK7SVPMUqXOQyG7Ke3UAH0ZLOPeeHhXtvHOrO80TzH8xRnbR2ZTUEt7f3gEXyREuq-4PqKp5nvPLBFILicDlh4h6L6Ztl9MWPlA9LMvu58NZ9DXY9Mf94wNre3aBXbXSM/s640/IMAG0497.jpg" width="380" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">GUIDE!!!!!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<u>Step 2:</u><br />
Use your handy dandy guide to make file dividers and pockets. I made one divider and two pockets from coordinating file folders. Those turned out so well I made two more pockets out of scrapbook paper.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<b>File Folder divider:</b> Lay file folder flat. Place the guide over the section you would like to cut out. For this one I included the tab. I used small binder clips to hold the guide in place while cutting. you could also trace around the guide and then cut it out as well. Punch holes in accordance to the guide and Voila!<br />
<b>Pocket divider:
</b>Use the guide and cut out your base from a file folder or scrapbook paper just like you did for the divider. To create the pocket arrange the top piece how you want your pocket to open either diagonal or straight across at various height. Allow for at least 1/4'' inch on all edges except the side with holes. You won't have to glue that side since the rings will hold that side together.
That 1/4'' inch border will wrap around three edges of the base piece. Glue works with light weight papers, but I secured the edges with clear tape for stiff or heavy paper.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">File Folder divider</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Pocket divider</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<u>Step 3:</u> If you decide to add the pouch use the guide to punch the holes. I found this one on sale at <a href="http://www.officedepot.com/" target="_blank">Office Depot </a>along with some really cute rhinestone pencils. And be a dear and give the hole punch as well since for these smaller binders a three-hole punch might not always work. I also found black note book paper that matched the black pencils and is awesome to write on with pencil or opaque gel pens. Personalize it as much as possible.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7OOL85OFfdvcRGQTklKapHBwznuIZccztxuQ3OrwoM2O0R_l2PXMqzL9lPDdtIc6DXQmWS7nWUcZe_3fSpnzDHCErVKyZTSmbuNJtr4qYTc0EJXc-w547Q1MeeVEw0lxIB4m60xlTqPc/s1600/IMAG0483.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7OOL85OFfdvcRGQTklKapHBwznuIZccztxuQ3OrwoM2O0R_l2PXMqzL9lPDdtIc6DXQmWS7nWUcZe_3fSpnzDHCErVKyZTSmbuNJtr4qYTc0EJXc-w547Q1MeeVEw0lxIB4m60xlTqPc/s320/IMAG0483.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfSzNOWGekDPXPwU9wXm_aKONEJXKts6_AagKcUCnNnVJ63ZQoeF1xTE9Jy0sN-Ab_Cz7u_UTUnHbwXGoRdjsffWfrUJVaspLY6mIkdXe9cQ0DOvrwx52EZOUwoDAKqGdD3L_uIWfVjK0/s1600/IMAG0496.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfSzNOWGekDPXPwU9wXm_aKONEJXKts6_AagKcUCnNnVJ63ZQoeF1xTE9Jy0sN-Ab_Cz7u_UTUnHbwXGoRdjsffWfrUJVaspLY6mIkdXe9cQ0DOvrwx52EZOUwoDAKqGdD3L_uIWfVjK0/s320/IMAG0496.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
You can also make a pouch! Take a sheet o f 8 x11" card stock and fold it 1/3 of the in horizontally. the holes will be along the fold, use the guide. close the top and bottom sides with glue, brads or whatever you like. With this one I used ribbon by cutting slits with an Exacto knife and weaving the ribbon through and glued it in place on the backside. To make the flap of the pouch a 1/4 inch hem glued and taped to the back of the card stock and folded over to close the pocket on front. Here I tore the edges to add some flair.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHY2dBPXjQJUZuky3kh-dVDS2Zki8lcephIyhokmr1m-bS-OP4TQinjD84Jm4XNJHR2UaGazn8Ts7ZTNfqgBENVlIfch-KluDzUIuhQTqmWlrB0EUBpvKEAc_8ythFQxf3scs-JdxKfUo/s1600/IMAG0495.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHY2dBPXjQJUZuky3kh-dVDS2Zki8lcephIyhokmr1m-bS-OP4TQinjD84Jm4XNJHR2UaGazn8Ts7ZTNfqgBENVlIfch-KluDzUIuhQTqmWlrB0EUBpvKEAc_8ythFQxf3scs-JdxKfUo/s320/IMAG0495.jpg" width="191" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<u>Step 4:</u> Add on a monthly calendar. I got this one from <a href="http://printablecalendarsfree.com/PCFstd/piart.php?art=728" target="_blank">Printable Calendars</a>. They have all kinds of different calendar options, landscape , portrait, 12, 13, 14-month the possibilities are endless! I downloaded the calendar I wanted and used Microsoft Publisher to edit the size to fit inside the book. Punched holes with the guide and this nifty notebook just got a 14-month calendar upgrade.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxs7WKzWwD2IrfXp1_s7CieB6p9vq9b8Nt68MGruegJBMqcNdF3Hx8Wm83BbUG2a0WPVJbS_wGQayIV3slTfEOoYsezzbMMuWRPhZ33euz_kjqSBZTafq9soPrl4BS2yYqDC6jDX0zc-8/s1600/IMAG0493.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxs7WKzWwD2IrfXp1_s7CieB6p9vq9b8Nt68MGruegJBMqcNdF3Hx8Wm83BbUG2a0WPVJbS_wGQayIV3slTfEOoYsezzbMMuWRPhZ33euz_kjqSBZTafq9soPrl4BS2yYqDC6jDX0zc-8/s320/IMAG0493.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Step 5: The Cover!<br />
This part was probably my most favorite technique since you can use it for just about anything and people think they are getting first rate art! I simply ripped long strips of different kinds of scrapbook paper I had in my stash. I keep the pieces all in the same color group but you don't have too. that is true for the shapes you rip as well, you don't even have to rip you could have a nice straight edge, the trick is to patchwork the pieces together. I used white paper as a base and glued my strips on. Test out your base sheet for size and thickness before you start gluing, that it can slide into the clear pocket of the front of the binder. And if you really want to get perki with it do the side binding as well the exact same way.<br />

The holidays are officially in full gear! Today I received party-made scented bath salts from my sister's best friend's sister's birthday party (say that ten times fast). There is one of lavender lemongrass and the other one is peppermint is super cute decorated baby food jars.<br />

Basically you get paint chips from your local hardware store and a picture frame and put them together. I have lots of tips to share so you don't run into the snags I did.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkszn9H5hi7M5ucnDQVHOKxhMxG306OQZJOp72w9TiRF0oKpYyzyjWRmVtwY9Yn1g1ywNuQHw-1u5b0honuKokE4uA5NGP-yfsrPpbraiF8JenOr4-cIXdy_ltXmRk2C3zmqCd2blCOnM/s1600/IMAG0458.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="380" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkszn9H5hi7M5ucnDQVHOKxhMxG306OQZJOp72w9TiRF0oKpYyzyjWRmVtwY9Yn1g1ywNuQHw-1u5b0honuKokE4uA5NGP-yfsrPpbraiF8JenOr4-cIXdy_ltXmRk2C3zmqCd2blCOnM/s640/IMAG0458.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibFmj624-RjSms4bk9z9XVu4YZA9O1Q4Bd2aSy4poGf3m2RySOMM3CQ5rXzJ0dYTd4CJQHIrZXWlegVV6MjvRFmwFWjTE0jt0rWfYRM5FSEso5l0IZfyUPynl7zL1xHStk3vzxaiqfOz8/s1600/IMAG0449.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibFmj624-RjSms4bk9z9XVu4YZA9O1Q4Bd2aSy4poGf3m2RySOMM3CQ5rXzJ0dYTd4CJQHIrZXWlegVV6MjvRFmwFWjTE0jt0rWfYRM5FSEso5l0IZfyUPynl7zL1xHStk3vzxaiqfOz8/s320/IMAG0449.jpg" width="191" /></a>What you need:<br />
Paint chips ( at least 15 to 35 depending on their size)<br />
A large picture frame with glass<br />
Scissors <br />
Contact paper ( plain, patterned and or transparent*)<br />
Double side tape or glue stick<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
After selecting my color scheme ( randomly grabbing all the pretty purple and blue ones) I decide to perki this project up a notch by cutting my paint chips into circles; because who wants to be a square? <br />
I got a bunch of paint chips that were 3X5 inches in size so I was able to get two 2" inch diameter dots of each color. I had to trace each circle and cut them out one by one the old fashion handmade way. Which made me realize how much I need more craft tools. My hubby suggested using a compass but I'd rather have one of those neat circle punches or cutting tools ( hint, hint wink!) But once I cut all my circles this project sped up a bit.<br />
The other hiccup was my frames. I had gotten these floral and dog prints at my local goodwill for $4.95 each. I'm not crazy over the prints, I really just wanted the frames and glass around the prints. So I didn't mind so much when the floral one didn't have a backboard and I had to cover it in white contact paper. Everything was going fine until I pick up the frame and broke the glass. Panic attack? Nope, it all worked because miraculously the floral print fit perfectly into the doggie frame! Now to think of something cool to do with the extra frame....<br />
<br />
<br />
Here are the steps:<br />
1) Cut, decorate or embellish you paint chips how ever you like. Just make sure they lay flat and have enough room to write events in.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih_CBn7SdqrfvLgrn2HxhyphenhyphenXoIV60YpXGUPb4uKfMaD5yrIl_l4a_9TsRd08n7ov3KSg4E02rS0VMYYrQYdkbxrbEOQ1mJidXVZjTUpc1OLnhNOPXsqfuFKN6Ffv239j2lNNUUWeomqt0M/s1600/IMAG0447.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="237" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih_CBn7SdqrfvLgrn2HxhyphenhyphenXoIV60YpXGUPb4uKfMaD5yrIl_l4a_9TsRd08n7ov3KSg4E02rS0VMYYrQYdkbxrbEOQ1mJidXVZjTUpc1OLnhNOPXsqfuFKN6Ffv239j2lNNUUWeomqt0M/s400/IMAG0447.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYY2Ky14D2c741z8ts5ldwwnJgGPbtcjBUAIbeRCRiykuGVTxBkMkWT4jVeNLHH66_dubG1Y-4AkvvW0zY8wYkWdSmYxtCzZcI8aYe2BIy89H0MlMUqNk-AXyJklfaEIo16fk-U5YxV68/s1600/IMAG0451.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="188" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYY2Ky14D2c741z8ts5ldwwnJgGPbtcjBUAIbeRCRiykuGVTxBkMkWT4jVeNLHH66_dubG1Y-4AkvvW0zY8wYkWdSmYxtCzZcI8aYe2BIy89H0MlMUqNk-AXyJklfaEIo16fk-U5YxV68/s320/IMAG0451.jpg" width="320" /></a>2) I covered my back board in white contact paper but you could use anything really, fabric,wrapping paper, tissue paper, scrapbook paper, patterned contact paper whatever suits your fancy.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfFy1osCyMeJyGe_5pWdnGQG4nltr9hlnc6U5UfJEDcM9MC1gOwF8pAk382UxzWvxTtHW3u9VkLM0gQ5ook-lgXjxow0qhHGBF3EnTxcmFkeLEP2rgnt_LPinb2gXKtggsJr7AN7WACPA/s1600/IMAG0454.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfFy1osCyMeJyGe_5pWdnGQG4nltr9hlnc6U5UfJEDcM9MC1gOwF8pAk382UxzWvxTtHW3u9VkLM0gQ5ook-lgXjxow0qhHGBF3EnTxcmFkeLEP2rgnt_LPinb2gXKtggsJr7AN7WACPA/s320/IMAG0454.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
3) Arrange your paint chips artfully on the backboard.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
4) Make it permanent, glue your chips in your arrangement.<br />
<br />
5) Put it all back together (carefully), wrap and give!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG_-xK6bt_Dy_6aN9MpA22ldCwO-qyQRQJIKL6Ywf2tYDbkl15tsslAmYhAGU6YM0tueh_SVq_NETyCaL0-mnxmDVulY-GZtkDM3RGbo0wqJkP3n-2TxOx7vrs0OyOpZtwXXqiVQQez4w/s1600/IMAG0455.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="119" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG_-xK6bt_Dy_6aN9MpA22ldCwO-qyQRQJIKL6Ywf2tYDbkl15tsslAmYhAGU6YM0tueh_SVq_NETyCaL0-mnxmDVulY-GZtkDM3RGbo0wqJkP3n-2TxOx7vrs0OyOpZtwXXqiVQQez4w/s200/IMAG0455.jpg" width="200" /></a> Tips:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Use a flat head screw driver to lift and lower the staples that hold the backboard in the frame.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li> Use a wet erase markers instead of a dry erase one,the ink wont wipe off unless it gets wet or leave residue.
Consider using white or neon opaque markers if you use dark paint chip colors.</li>
</ul>
<br />

<br />
Happy Hanukkah !<br />

What you need:<br />
Pine-cones<br />
Fine red glitter<br />
2 Tbsp of cinnamon<br />
Spray adhesive<br />
Basket<br />
Red or white Christmas lights<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
1) Mix red glitter and cinnamon in a paper bowl . Put down paper over your work surface and don't spray over your glitter bowl or it will stick more to the bowl than the cone.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioCmcKp54spKUDMf2ro1QudtcjVMwhC7KvS0tRQkaEii2dZeOlTVFdbWnl1FJeAYd7ZxAzJNsjyutcOdjnzCWUmSaZ-PFxkY8RNgqFo5SkZOIaPtgffSiRJglsYyN5zTyFzboDxUG-TbQ/s1600/IMAG0440.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioCmcKp54spKUDMf2ro1QudtcjVMwhC7KvS0tRQkaEii2dZeOlTVFdbWnl1FJeAYd7ZxAzJNsjyutcOdjnzCWUmSaZ-PFxkY8RNgqFo5SkZOIaPtgffSiRJglsYyN5zTyFzboDxUG-TbQ/s400/IMAG0440.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
2) I strung my red lights through an opening in the basket weave. Place fake snow or paper-towel (its just keeps the glitter from spreading everywhere) in the bottom of the basket. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKmsxrO0bS_PJcOPzgXZel6dFw5j4iiLpmMnWU5j2MhCkcKcN6gRVfCkMjNXj-tUSI1rikFsbKPv-xINZK6-YBhd7xejn2IdBSV_zHcZpBzHPGq_bw5wCcX8YLPrdP6hIKocfGwS9FXV0/s1600/IMAG0434.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKmsxrO0bS_PJcOPzgXZel6dFw5j4iiLpmMnWU5j2MhCkcKcN6gRVfCkMjNXj-tUSI1rikFsbKPv-xINZK6-YBhd7xejn2IdBSV_zHcZpBzHPGq_bw5wCcX8YLPrdP6hIKocfGwS9FXV0/s320/IMAG0434.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
3) Spray pine-cone with spray adhesive. Watch your fingers they'll stick together from the glue.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJt0SIFnYVpyWOEznycuthXm8kuElt8egxl8WWBTw5iakI-qdraQPDzUcq2Ss9L3kEYdMLaPbpxqypx2VIz_pm-Q-R6k-B0UpY9tCdY5isLagmn-in-D5vIBwnCs1a6dbLNlpgn0W8CrI/s1600/IMAG0439.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJt0SIFnYVpyWOEznycuthXm8kuElt8egxl8WWBTw5iakI-qdraQPDzUcq2Ss9L3kEYdMLaPbpxqypx2VIz_pm-Q-R6k-B0UpY9tCdY5isLagmn-in-D5vIBwnCs1a6dbLNlpgn0W8CrI/s320/IMAG0439.jpg" width="191" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
4) Roll pine cone around in the glitter bowl. I used a plastic spoon to scope the glitter over the cone to get it all in the nooks and crannies. tap lightly on the edge of bowl to knock off excess glitter and set aside to dry.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIZvKZBVuCzFTZDHjop2O3yVbwjdUfavU_Y6CdS-rZuc6xtrO2ms-qFZERwfRYqHraxHMr0oE0lMHyf8kWaryzc6E_6c0eAwlNSUlDZ0RLPegJU5Y4qo-_M0EUFt8hnJDRJG6Fw8kaKEc/s1600/IMAG0441.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIZvKZBVuCzFTZDHjop2O3yVbwjdUfavU_Y6CdS-rZuc6xtrO2ms-qFZERwfRYqHraxHMr0oE0lMHyf8kWaryzc6E_6c0eAwlNSUlDZ0RLPegJU5Y4qo-_M0EUFt8hnJDRJG6Fw8kaKEc/s400/IMAG0441.jpg" width="238" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
5) Repeat for each cone. Spray , Roll, Tap!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3g4uiHwxbSbtMXxsbGS_oIzSV9Mg1J1iHMdIGAtPNjuuBud_NUkOcAz8_XGxNEyc5QCOwEUMI1UT5tFJH1MJ7JfKfuvkEdhMMOU1WUstP0BcEytTNIDvVsOfrhmSsdci1_9dYzLV9tzI/s1600/IMAG0436.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="191" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3g4uiHwxbSbtMXxsbGS_oIzSV9Mg1J1iHMdIGAtPNjuuBud_NUkOcAz8_XGxNEyc5QCOwEUMI1UT5tFJH1MJ7JfKfuvkEdhMMOU1WUstP0BcEytTNIDvVsOfrhmSsdci1_9dYzLV9tzI/s320/IMAG0436.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
6) Once your pine-cones are dry place them in the basket and artistically wrap the lights around the cones. The heat from the lights helps the cinnamon emanate throughout the room. Hmmm smells like Christmahanakwanzika!<br />
<br />
Tips:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>I used 2 bag of pine cones for this one basket and it took me two hours and 10 mins to arrange. </li>
<li>Be as liberal as you want with the glitter and cinnamon the more the smellier which is a good thing in this case.</li>
</ul>

<br />
<a href="http://www.sharpie.com/enUS/Pages/Home.aspx" target="_blank">Sharpie markers</a> are great! They come in a variety of colors, tip sizes, and can write on every kind of surface. This gift idea is one of the reasons I fell for <a href="http://pinterest.com/nlawson808/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a> so hard. I mean who doesn't have a Sharpie laying around to doodle with? My inspiration for the ampersand came from <a href="http://nyti.ms/NJo3A9" target="_blank">Crate &Barrel commercials</a> ''love & light'' and ''joy&happiness''. This is an easy-peasy gift that can be done at least an hour before it needs no be presented. It seems almost to good to be true in 3 very simple steps.<br />
<br />
1) Write on ceramic mug with Sharpie.<br />
2) Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.<br />
3) Give!!! *after you wrap it all Perki and cute of course.<br />
<br />
However, results can be mixed. See <a href="http://www.sharpie.com/enUS/Pages/ArtworkDetail.aspx?eid=1362057" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="http://homemakerchic.wordpress.com/2012/08/02/baked-sharpie-mug-pinterest-fail/" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="http://www.hardlyhousewives.com/2012/10/sharpie-mug-fail.html" target="_blank">here</a> and <a href="http://craftfail.com/2012/11/sharpie-mug-an-epic-fail/" target="_blank">there</a> for other crafters attempts.<br />
<br />
So taking all that into account I choose these black octagon mugs from my local <a href="http://locator.goodwill.org/" target="_blank">Goodwill</a> for $0.77 each, (SCORE !) and used metallic markers. I already had a regular silver Sharpie and brought a Elmer's Painters pen at Walmart, both of which did not come off after I let the mugs sit for over 24 hours after baking and a good scrubby hand washing.<br />
<br />
Tips:<br />
<br />
<ul><li>I suggest before using the Sharpie, washing each mug with soap and water and letting them dry completely then wipe the surface you plan to write on with rubbing alcohol.</li>
<li>Rubbing alcohol can save your life when working with Sharpie pens. If you make a mistake like I did just take a cotton ball or Q-tip dipped in alcohol and wipe it away! </li>
</ul><br />

I did find oil based Sharpies at Michaels. Since my regular silver sharpie worked fine as well as the Elmer's marker, I would make sure the receiver of this gift knows to only hand wash the mugs.<br />

I'm Trina and this is my blog. It's about two of my favorite things making crafts and giving them to just about any one who will take them aka family and friends. If you are like me you are all jazzed by the holiday season and are excited to share it with your loved ones, right? Or maybe the tryptophan hasn't worn off yet and your not sure where to even begin gift shopping none the less you are probably going to want to give some thing to some one very soon why not make and give that special some one something you put your heart into? Oh, but I'm not that crafty you say. Well I'm here to help. I am going to be the guinea pig for all those neat do-it-yourself gifts we see all over the interwebs, so you can hand make the most awesome homemade gift ever.<br />
<br />
This year I am challenging myself to make gifts for my loved ones with in the next 30 days. I've made some gifts of this sort in the past like mini family cookbooks for my sister and mom, gift baskets for friends and birthday cards for sorority sisters. This year will be different!<br />
(1) I'm going to attempt to document it all in this blog so you can follow along at home<br />
(2) my list includes 20 people of different backgrounds with a couple birthdays thrown in the mix not to mention all the different hostess gifts, stocking stuffers, and holiday party/potluck/gift exchange that pop up along the way.<br />
<br />
I'd like for the gift to be unique to each person so I'll need some inspiration from my friends on <a href="http://pinterest.com/nlawson808/homemade-gifts/" target="_blank">Pinterest</a> (check out my 'homemade gifts' board). Let's see do I have all the markers of a an <a href="http://www.mindtools.com/page6.html">S.M.A.R.T. goal</a>?<br />
